Our Story

Nearly three decades ago, a father of four packed a van with magnetic tiles and set off across the country, visiting education trade shows one town at a time. Rudy Valenta could not have known that those handshakes and demonstrations were building the foundation for a brand that would reshape how children play. What began as a simple classroom tool grew steadily, first with a solid-colored set designed for teaching, then with a larger collection for educators who wanted more pieces to enrich their students’ learning. A few years later, the tiles took on a clearer look, shifting to translucent colors that let light pass through and revealed the signature criss-cross lattice that marks a genuine piece.

When severe flooding destroyed the first factory in Thailand, the brand faced real jeopardy, yet widespread news coverage unexpectedly placed it on a national stage. The resulting scarcity drove demand higher, and a small team searched for a new factory to keep momentum alive. Design soon moved to center stage, with new lines inspired by architecture: colorless tiles that celebrate the lattice, a black line that elevates aesthetics, and a glow line that embraces experimentation. When the pandemic settled in, families seeking enriching toys that supported hands-on learning at home discovered that these tiles were their go-to solution.

The team then responded to parents’ wishes for sets that spark creativity, developing themed collections featuring charming magnetic figures and printed tiles, all compatible with the classic sets. In 2023, a downhill racing set earned recognition as a preschool toy of the year, confirming the brand as a leader in toy innovation. New ramps, vehicles and characters expanded the possibilities of play for children and parents around the world. Today the brand reaches more than eighty countries and continues to spread the joy of meaningful play, with millions of children and the young at heart engaging in fun, child-led, experience-based and developmental play.

That philosophy has always led the way. The best kind of play encourages kids to build, explore and learn their own way, developing creativity, critical thinking, communication and collaboration along the journey. From first builds to imaginative worlds, the tiles adapt to every stage of childhood. The promise is simple and unwavering: never compromise on safety, since many team members are parents of young children themselves. Every set is backwards and forwards compatible, so the set bought today works with the very first one made and with every set yet to come. And there are never instructions, because the brand is powered by a child’s imagination and a commitment to intuitive, open-ended play. You did not accidentally throw them away; they were never there.
